Higgins Beach Community

Nestled midway between Cape Elizabeth and Prouts Neck, Higgins Beach remains one of New England’s best kept secrets. Located in Scarborough, Maine just 7 miles south of Portland, this coastal cottage community offers the perfect balance of fun and relaxation! The expansive ½ mile sandy white beach is the primary attraction for newcomers, but the simple charm of the area promises to draw you back time and time again.

Framed by the Spurwink River on one end, Higgins Beach promises near-limitless options to while away the time. Sunbathing with a good book, hunting for seaglass, or discovering the numerous tide pools and investigating their hidden wonders are only a few of the relaxations here for you. Just sitting and watching the changing seascape makes for a memorable day at Higgins Beach!

For those interested in more energetic pursuits, Higgins Beach provides some of the most rigorous surfing in New England. The river/ocean tandem also boasts generous fishing opportunities, whether you’re an expert or amateur. Grab a rod and delight in a fresh catch-of-the-day dinner! Kayaking, sailing, rafting, swimming and bodysurfing will test you physically and invigorate your spirit.

Weekly social breakfasts, beach raking parties, and community dinners allow guests and residents to mix and mingle. Friendships are forged and renewed every summer at the Clubhouse on Greenwood Ave. Stop by and become a part of our family!

Even if you never venture beyond Higgins Beach, the memories will remain with you for years, perhaps generations! The charm and simplicity of Higgins Beach will remind you of a way of life that harkens back to gentler days. Come to Higgins Beach and remember what life can be like.
